Once Upon A Time...
Once upon a time in another pencil-skirted life, Brooke was a Lawyer, busy billing her time in 7 minute increments. It was through this little billing system that she discovered her love of tiny details and micro-progressions. She loved seeing how focused she could be in one small cluster of minutes, to fill her minutes more value. In time, this system taught her a much bigger life lesson—that presence is what makes life truly valuable and rich.
After 4.5 years of practicing as a Lawyer, stress began to affect her health! At first the symptoms seemed random—swelling in the throat, numbness in arms and legs, legs giving way, full-body rashes! After months of uncertainty, a neurologist confirmed these symptoms were from lack of circulation caused by shallow and rapid breathing, known as hyperventilation. This was one of life’s big wake up’s, where she realised the disconnection between her mind + body! And so began the journey of learning how to breathe.
A few years later Brooke left Law to pursue a life in yoga. It is this trust in life, following the inner urges and deeper signs, symptoms and signals, that she aims to instil in others. She invites, that when we really lean in and say ‘Yes’ to the mysterious unfolding life without resistance, we are always sliding into unpredictable tracks that are fresh, powdery and brand new.
Brooke has a dedicated practice and has studied extensively with renowned teachers in the East and West. She is grateful to have years of study under incredible teachers and mentors including Noelle Connolly, Meghan Currie, Maty Ezraty and Gwyn Williams.
WHAT INSPIRED THE ONLINE STUDIO?
Brooke’s online offerings began with Series One: Press Play. The series took on a life of its own and developed its own community of 100’s of dedicated and passionate students from all around the world.
From this, it became clear that being with students in a studio is not the only way to go on a journey of growth together. In fact, Brooke’s own yoga journey was catalysed by moving away from the city and developing a home practice, supported and expanded by classes and teachings online!
Further, as Brooke travelled to Europe and Indonesia each year for 5 years, the retreats and workshops shared felt like going on a rite of passage together, and the most important part of any rite of passage is reintegration into daily life. Hence having a space to stay connected, and share ongoing inspiration, encouragement and support felt so necessary.
The Online Studio is a space Brooke created to be able to join you in your journey, and to practice and grow together. After all, being human is about being in relationship with one another, and the thing about relationships is that they are the best way to illuminate the tendencies inside us that might otherwise stay hidden from our own perception! We truly reach our most expanded and joyful state when we are uplifted, encouraged and inspired by one another.
SIGNATURE ‘FULL BODY YES’ STYLE
The classes on the Online Studio are intended to take you on journeys of breath, mind and body. They are designed to spark self-inquiry, as if you are sitting inside your own private meditation hall.
Brooke’s hope is that you learn to relax into who you are without anything to add on or takeaway. When we embrace who we are fully, we feel empowered, strong and unafraid. Then practice becomes endless play, and an empirical science or self-experiment in all things beyond the comfortable and familiar.
TEACHING METHOD
The classes are structured intelligently and progressively. To help your expansion, they will press at the core of where you hold yourself back the most. Brooke’s cueing is very intentional—she cues with specificity to hold discomfort in psychic utero for long enough that eventually your growing edges stretch, and you have no choice by the dig into the depths of your innate power and grace. Her classes are designed to be revisited over and over to allow the actions and movements to land deeper each time, touching far beyond the physical form.
